Learn more about NFC pet tags

A quick guide to how tap-to-connect tags work, why they help when a pet is lost, and what to expect from MoonTag.

What is NFC, and how does it help my pet?

NFC (Near Field Communication) is the same short-range wireless technology used for tap-to-pay. A MoonTag pet tag contains a small NFC chip. When someone holds a modern smartphone near the tag, the phone can read it and open your pet’s profile page in the browser—no special app required for the person who finds your pet.

That page can show the information you choose to share, such as how to reach you, your pet’s name, and any medical notes that might help a good Samaritan or vet. The tag itself does not need a battery; it gets power from the phone during the tap.

Why use an NFC tag instead of only an engraved plate?

Engraved text is limited in length and can wear down. An NFC profile can carry richer detail and be updated when your phone number or address changes. Together with a visible ID, NFC adds a fast path for someone to reach you with one tap.
